Mission Statement
Bay Bluffs – Emmet County Medical Care Facility is dedicated to providing the highest possible standards in care-giving while preserving the individual dignity and quality of life for our residents.
Additional Services
Barber and beauty services, hospice services, laboratory, transportation to local medical appointments (hearing, dental, physician, vision, etc.), and x-ray are among some of the services available to our residents.
Dementia Care
We offer a twenty-bed certified Alzheimer’s/special needs unit dedicated primarily to residents who are cognitively impaired particularly those with Alzheimer’s Disease. Our specially trained staff provides gentle, loving care in a secure environment.
Medical Care
The Facility has a medical director and local physicians who have practicing privileges at our facility, allowing for resident choice to the finest health care practitioners. These physicians are accessible in the surrounding area and have privileges at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital, rendering a seamless system of care.
Pharmacy
Our consulting pharmacist from a state licensed pharmacy, conducts monthly reviews of the residents’ medical charts to ensure appropriate pharmaceutical levels. The pharmacist regularly communicates with the Facility’s physicians to ensure the highest level of pharmaceutical care.
Quality Improvement
This is a major emphasis within the daily operations of the Facility. Quality Assurance (QA) meetings are conducted on a monthly schedule while information is being collected on a daily basis. The QA team consists of the medical director, nursing staff and facility management. It is our commitment to continually monitor our internal systems and strive for improvement, as our residents’ lives are top priority.
Social Services
Two full-time social workers provide assistance and support to all residents and their families. The social workers also counsel families in the utilization of community resources as necessary, upon discharge from the Facility.
24-Hour Skilled Care
Each twelve-hour shift is staffed with professional licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants who receive continuing on-going education and training. Our staff to resident ratio surpasses federal and state regulations. We believe in a resident-centered philosophy when rendering personal care to our residents.
The therapy department remains one of the most active departments within the Facility. The focus of therapy is to assist our residents in achieving their maximum level of independence and for some residents, the goal to return home. Once skilled therapy (physical, occupational and speech) is no longer needed, our restorative therapy takes over and continues to strive towards meeting the resident’s goals. These restorative services are available five days a week.
The purpose of the Facility’s activity department is to provide a supportive environment for our residents. We assist residents with a viable outlet for the following areas: physical, mental, social, emotional, and self-expression. From past to current lifestyles residents can continue to be a part of the community and to address any spiritual needs they may have no matter what their religion.
The activity department develops programs to highlight our residents’ creativity, which also introduces new individual and group interests. With regularly scheduled outings, whether in our own beautiful backyard or one of our tranquil surrounding communities, our residents’ lives are involved with various outdoor programs. Religious services are routinely available and provided by local clergy on site.
We give freely of ourselves daily with a smile, a touch, or a kind word. This is a proud philosophy of our home.
Our dietary team provides attractive, nutritious, and well-balanced meals. We also aspire to meet the needs and personal preferences of our residents in accordance with physician ordered diets. In conjunction with the physician, our in-house dietician assists in programming these specialized meals on an individual and facility-wide need.
Bay Bluff’s friendly housekeeping & laundry staff are available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist with housekeeping and laundry needs. The housekeeping staff is trained in cleaning and disinfecting resident and non-resident areas within the facility on a daily basis using ecologically friendly cleaning products.
Our laundry staff is equipped to label, inventory, launder, and return all resident clothing and Facility linens. Bath towels and bed sheets, pillowcases, bath blankets and hospital gowns are owned and laundered by NMRH Linen Service. |
